WHAT ARE STRETCH MARKS?
Stretch marks are a common problem. 70 – 90% of all women have stretch marks on their body. This includes breast, stomach, hips, and buttocks. A stretch mark is a type of
scar or tearing that happens in the dermis or epidermal components and what this does is it causes less elastin and collagen and this translates to the scars you actually see on your breasts, stomach, buttocks, hips, and thighs. Stretch marks come in different colors. Newly formed stretch marks are red, but older stretch marks are often white. Stretch marks develop when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our
skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear.
WHO GETS STRETCH MARKS?
Not everyone develops these narrow bands on their skin. Fluctuating hormone levels seem to play a role. You may also have a higher risk if people in your family get stretch marks. If you develop stretch marks, you’re most likely to do so during these times:
- Growth spurts that happen in puberty
- Pregnancy
- Rapid weight loss or gain
- Weight training when you have rapid muscle growth
HOW TO FADE STRETCH MARKS AFTER PREGNANCY
After healing from the effects of giving birth, most new mothers begin to focus on tightening loose skin after pregnancy. The loose skin is the result of the weight that was lost after giving birth. The lost weight is not just the baby’s weight, but any extra weight that was gained during pregnancy. Here are the steps to get rid of stretch marks.
1. Lose Weight – Lose weight steadily and not too fast. Since the skin’s elasticity reduces with age, it is best to lose excess weight sooner than later. The sooner
you lose the excess weight, the easier it is for our skin to recover. However, losing eight too quick isn’t healthy. You need to give the skin time to create elastin and collagen and to as the skin retracts to its original state.
2. Exercise. Since you need to lose weight after pregnancy, it is best to start an exercise program that is easy to follow and that fits into your new schedule. It can be a simple as taking the baby out for a walk around the block. You can also practice yoga which is a non-intense way to gain flexibility and reduce stress. The great thing with yoga is you can pop in a DVD or watch a Youtube video and practice while the baby is in sight. Yoga music is relaxing so you
won’t disturb your baby while he or she sleeps.
When your doctor releases you for more strenuous exercise, you can start strengthening your stomach muscles. The best type of exercises for this are crunches, planks, leg lifts, knee lifts, squats, reverse setups and pilates type core exercises. These exercises burn tummy fat and tighten your abdomen area. Aerobic exercises like the elliptical, stationary bike, stair climber, running, jogging, kickboxing and dancing are great ways to get your heart rate up, burn fat all over your body, and
increase feel-good mood-enhancing endorphins. Not only do you get positive results for your heart, but you also help your muscles increase strength which in turn helps to tighten your skin. Weight training is another way to get lean, build muscle, burn fat, and tighten the skin. Building lean muscle through weight training is a sure way to tone and tighten your skin, look sexier, and get lean and strong.
3. Eat Skin Tightening Foods. Foods rich in Vitamin C, A, D, and E provide your skin with the phytonutrients needed to create new skin cells faster. Also, you must get enough protein. Similar
to exercising to get lean muscle, eating protein can build lean muscle too all over your body and especially your belly. In return, eating more protein leads to improved and tighter skin tone. You will need to eat water-rich vegetables and low sugar high fiber fruits like berries, apples, plums, peaches, and cherries.
Try to limit fruits higher in sugar like pineapple, bananas, papaya, and mangos. Limit your intake of watermelon too. When you think of tightening your skin, think of foods with the most color like spinach, peppers like red and yellow variety, eat tomatoes, radishes, and carrots. Add healthy fats like avocado, olive oil to salads, and coconut and MCT oil to your protein smoothies.
4. A Keto friendly detox tea – My Skinny Detox Tea is Keto Diet Friendly and is the best Waist Slimming, Diet Tea, Belly Fat, Fat Burner, Liver Cleanse with 8 Powerful Ingredients, 14 Days + 7 More Free! + $99 Quick Start Diet E-Book With Recipes Free! It doesn’t give you horrible stomach pains like all the other teas that have a laxative
effect.
5. Consider A Tummy Tuck. A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure where a doctor removes excess fat loose belly skin. Getting a tummy tuck can provide instant results, but the surgical procedure has risks and healing can take months. Having a tummy tuck will not guarantee stretch marks will not come back for you have to maintain your weight and not gain especially during the months of healing. It’s expensive and not the best choice and is often the last resort after
losing weight and less invasive treatments and procedures have been done.
6. Use A Waist Trainer – Tummy tucks may be necessary for some women, but if you don’t have an excessive amount of skin, using a waist trainer is a safe alternative. A
waist trainer is not like a corset. Corsets are not appropriate for use for new mothers. A waist trainer is a safe, doctor approved a way to help correct your posture, strengthen your abdominal wall, help the skin retract faster, and speed healing. The Waist Trainer our models help reduce your waist from 2-4 inches when you first put it on. Start by wearing it for an hour
a day, then slowly work up to wearing it longer, but never more than 8 hours.
