Skinny Rule # 2 – Exercise Everyday – But Not Strenuously! The best exercises to do during a detox are exercises that help clean and drain your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system is made up of a network of vessels help clean and detoxify your body. Exercises that do this best are yoga, Pilates, stretching, and light strength training. Keep your workouts light because your body is healing during a detox and you will most likely have less energy and this is normal. Strenuous exercise can cause health problems so keep your workouts light. Skinny Rule #3 – Eat Good Carbs Your diet should consist of three main food groups; protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Chose the least calorie proteins such as fish or sea food, whey or plant based protein powders to make your green smoothies. Eat only green leafy veggies because they burn fat and are made mostly of water making it easier to lose weight. Limit fruits and stay away from fruit and vegetable juices. When eating fruit, stick to ones with less sugar like berries. They are full of fat plumping sugar! You may find your energy low while on your detox. If this is the case, occasionally, you may find that you may need grainy carbohydrates for more energy. Choose one from the ancient grain family like Quinoa and millet, but don’t do this often and keep portions size small; 1/2 cup. Every so often eat a fruit with more sugar content like a banana, which will supply your body with fuel and potassium. Skinny Rule #4 – Drink Plenty of Water Your body holds tons of toxins from both the environment and what you eat and drink on a daily basis, therefore, you must drink water to flush out excess water. The result is a flatter stomach, less appetite, clear skin, and more energy. H2O flushes out your system by keeping your kidneys, liver, colon, and lymph nodes (organs that filter waste products from your body) running smoothly. Don’t kill yourself over guzzling a ton if you’re not thirsty, but aim to drink about one to two quarts a day, plus one to two cups of tea or coffee. A good way to tell if you’re hydrated enough: You should be able to pee every couple of hours, and your urine should be fairly clear.
